[Fr.] [Music) a flat note, i.e. the b-like sign which makes flat [mol]. Ger. mol is minor, from the difference between major and minor thirds ; dur or durum, hard, is in mediaeval music natural, and so major as compared with moll, or L. mollis, soft.
