An Italian poet; born (Ramondetta) in Palermo, Dec. 31, 1830. Although of a distinguished family, her childhood was passed in comparative poverty, and she had little formal schooling. Her talent was precocious, and at sixteen she wrote verses which captivated the public. Becoming a wife and mother, however,-with ten children at that,-her association with the Muse has been intermittent in recent years; but she has made even this of some literary service, as in her later "Poems" (1887).
