(1797-1867), was born in Portland, Me. He was a member of the State Legislature from 1825 to 1828. He represented Maine in the House of Representatives from 1829 to 1841, and was elected to the Senate, serving from 1841 to 1847. He was chairman of the Committee on Finance, and was an authority on questions of the tariff and finance.
