-
(from the goddess Feronia.) A tree of India, Order Aurantiaceae, which yields a gum closely resembling Gum Arabic. Dr. Pereira thinks it not improbable, that a part of the East India gum taken to England may be the produce of this tree. The leaves are aromatic, of an odour resembling anise, and are used as a carminative.
