Marchioness of Ossoli (1810-1850), of Cambridge, Mass., a woman of great learning, intellectual gifts and social charm and influence, and a prominent leader among the Transcendentalists, was editor of the Dial, their organ, from 1840 to 1842. She took an interesting part in aiding the Italian cause in 1848, and was shipwrecked and drowned off Long Island on her return.
