A French diplomatist and historian; born at Arcis-sur-Aube about 1165; died about 1213. He participated in the Fourth Crusade and the sack of Constantinople, and wrote a most valuable account of it, entitled "The History of the Capture of Constantinople by the French and Venetians". It is supposed to be the oldest prose history in the French language.
