An alkaloid, C16H21NO3, obtained from atropin. As a mydriatic, it is usually employed in the form of the hydrobromid. It paralyzes the accommodation as well as dilates the pupil, the effect on both being of shorter duration than that of atropin. By some it is preferred to atropin for both these purposes preparatory to determining the refraction.
