A balance arranged for ascertaining the weight of a body suspended in liquid, the balance and weights being in the air. H. paradox, the ill-chosen name of an instrument which exhibits the fact that a comparatively light column of water can support a heavy weight in virtue of the fundamental laws of the transmission of pressure through a fluid.
