A Danish novelist; born at Thisted, Jutland, April 7, 1847; died at Copenhagen, April 30, 1885. He was a botanist and Darwinian who turned to story-writing and became eminent as a realistic novelist. "Mogens", "Niels Lyhne", and "Marie Grubbe" are tales of great merit in plot, construction, and style.
