[Ger.] The German for child is kind, of which the diminutive is kindlein or kindchen. This, in some parts of Germany and in Pennsylvania, has been formed into kindel, and the children are promised gifts at Christmas from "Christ-Kindel."-Bartlett's Americanisms.
