• A small fish allied to the blenny, and found under stones and seaweeds, where it lurks. It is the Blennius pholis of Linnaeus, and the Pholis loevis of modern authors. By means of its pectoral fins it is able to crawl upon land, and when the tide ebbs will often creep upon shore until it finds a crevice wherein it can hide until the tide returns.
