Supposed cerebral centers for maintaining the balance between the production and the dissipation of heat. Of the four basal thermotaxic centers, one is situated in the caudate nucleus, one in the gray matter beneath it, one in the gray matter about the most anterior part of the third ventricle, (see thermopolypneic center), and one at the anterior inner end of the optic thalamus.
