(1804-1885), became secretary of the American Anti-Slavery Society in 1833. He was an editor of numerous anti-slavery publications including the "Emancipator," "Human Rights," "The Massachusetts Abolitionist," the "Chronotype" and the "Commonwealth." He was prominent in insurance improvements, and was Insurance Commissioner of Massachusetts from 1858 to 1866. He aided in organizing the National Liberal League and was its president for three years.
