A French poet (1785-1859); born at Douai. She made her debut at the age of 16 in comic opera, but shortly after quit the stage. She wrote several volumes of poems: "Elegies and Romances"; "New Elegies and Poems"; "Tears"; "Poor Flowers"; "Bouquets and Prayers"; and "Poems of Childhood". All her poems are distinguished by great sweetness and unaffected pathos. Her most perfect song is perhaps "If He had Known". She wrote also several stories.
